FAQs

Q:

What is IMPACT Co-op?

A:

We are a volunteer-run homeschooling group that meets once a week for three hours to offer classes in Reno. The classes we offer vary each semester based on demand and what parents want to teach. Most classes are elective based and meant to supplement already established homeschool curriculums.

Q:

Where, what time, and what day does IMPACT meet?

A:

IMPACT Co-op meets at St. Luke's Lutherean Church at 3835 Lakeside Drive Reno NV 89509. Classes are held weekly on Wednesdays each week. First Hour is 10am to 11:00am, Second Hour is 11:10am to 12:10 am, Lunch is 12:10 to 12:50pm, Third Hour is from 1:00pm to 2pm.

Q:

How do I enroll my child?

A:

Enrollment opens in September for the fall semester and Janurary for the spring semester. Families can choose to register or take a break any semester they want. Dates will be announced on our IMPACT Co-op Facebook page and here on our website. The first step is to create an account on our website and login. When the date comes to register you will login using this account. Registration occurs in four waves: board members, teachers, survey takers (the survey is available the middle of the semester before and will not be made available after), and then any remaining spaces will be opened for people not in those groups.

Q:

Can I just drop my child or children off?

A:

No. We are not a drop off group. While your children are in classes you'll either be assigned to volunteer in another classroom or asked to teach. If you are not needed you are still required to stay on the premises in case a need arises.

Q:

Do I have to enroll my child in all 3 hours?

A:

No. you can enroll your child or children in as many or as few classes as you would like. Please note that no children can be left unattended at anytime and children over the age of one must be enrolled in a class. If you have multiple children at the co-op over the age of one they must all be enrolled for the same hours of classes. Parents are required to volunteer while their child is in classes and may not have older children with them.

Q:

How much does it cost to join IMPACT?

A:

Every family must pay a semester fee of $20 that covers the insurance for that family. Then each class has a cost based on if that class is a Parent Teacher or a Contracted Teacher and what type of supplies or activities will be done in the classroom. We try to keep our class prices reasonably low as we are a Non-profit organization. We only strive to cover the costs to run IMPACT including the building fee, website fees, and insurance.

Q:

Do I have to teach?

A:

Typically most families try a semester or two before teaching a class. We don't ask that everyone teaches but we do ask that everyone willingly and happily volunteers how they can. Many hands make light work and while not everyone wants to or is able to teach we ask that you are willing to help how you can.

Q:

What type of classes are offered with IMPACT Co-op?

A:

That's the best part of joining IMPACT: Our families help choose! Each semester we put out a survey asking what classes they would like to see the next semester. The next step is to find the parent willing to teach that class. We mostly offer electives and academic classes to supplement already-established homeschool programs. Our age range of classes is also based on that survey but we typically offer classes from nursery to high school. Our class offerings for each semester will come out in January and September before registration. No class is guaranteed to repeat every semester as our families are always changing. Getting involved is the best way to see the class you want for your children.

Q:

If I choose to un-enroll after I have enrolled is there a refund?

A:

Yes, if you do so in a timely manner. If it is before classes start you will recieve a full refund. Due to the short nature of the co-op no refund will be given after the first  week.

Q:

Can my child be placed in a class when they are not the age that is listed?

A:

If your child has a birthday within one month of classes starting we will allow them to register in the class they will be turning the age for. Teachers choose the age based on what skills the child needs to have to be able to enjoy the class. Specific questions are welcome but we do not make acceptions lightly to be fair to those who may be on the waitlist for the class that they are the right age for.

Q:

What if I can't make it and want to send my child with someone else?

A:

This request must have the approval of the Director before the day of the occurance. Under certain circumstances, a relative of the child over the age of 18 may sign a waiver to accompany the child that day instead of the parent but it must be discussed with the Director for approval first. The person staying with your child must remain on site while the child is in classes and may be asked to voulenteer in a classroom. This person must check in at the front desk and recieve a name tag.

Q:

Is IMPACT affiliated with the church they meet in?

A:

No. Though we are very grateful for St. Luke's Church for hosting our Co-op we are not affiliated with them or any specific religion. We work with our teachers and families to be respectful of the church's beliefs and show our gratitude towards St Luke's for hosting us but our classes are elective in nature. We expect all IMPACT families to show respect to everyone while with us, including those who differ in family choices, beliefs, and religion.
